Looking for the best eintopf recipe or german stew that will take you down memory lane and tastes just like the one Oma use to make? This post is all about the best eintopf recipe!

“Oma” is Chris’s German Great-Grandma, whom I never had the pleasure of getting to meet. I’ve heard countless stories about how sweet and gentle she was, but also how strong and….German, she was. This Eintopf recipe is something I’m very familiar with though, and am so blessed to be able to enjoy!
I wish I could have met Oma. She lived with Chris and his brothers while they were growing up. There are so many photos of them with her throughout their childhood. From all that I’ve heard, she was a really important part of their life during those years.

Best Eintopf Recipe:
It’s so cool that the family still keeps her alive by talking about her, reminiscing, and often cooking her recipes. She has a ton of amazing recipes like Plum Cake, Apple Pancakes, and Eintopf (Pronounced Eye-N-Top-F)

Eintopf is similar to a German Stew, which she used to make with sausage, carrots, potatoes, and cabbage. It is so easy to make, and we often make it in our house as well.
It’s incredibly flavorful, simple, whole ingredients and tastes like something you want to cozy up and eat on a cold winter day. It’s so warm, and filling but not too filling. It also makes a decent amount. I’d say this recipe will serve around 6 people easily.

I wanted to share this easy, delicious recipe with you, to pass keep the tradition going. If you want something that is different, simple, SO tasty, and will totally remind you of “home,” I definitely recommend giving this one a shot! It’s literally foolproof to make, it just has to cook for about 40 minutes or so. But that’s the beauty of it. You chop everything up, throw it in the pot, then let it cook. Super easy.

Oma’s Eintopf Recipe

A German Stew recipe that’ll remind you of what a home cooked meal really tastes like.
- 2 pkg Eckridge Beef Smoked Sausage
- 1/2 Yellow Onion
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1 tsp Beef Boullion
- 1 bag Baby Carrots
- 2-3 Red Potatoes (cut into bite size pieced)
- 1 head Cabbage (only leafy stuff, as green as you can get)
- 1.5 tsp Vegeta Seasoning
Cut up the meat, and brown in an pot. You do not need to add oil as the sausage has oil in it.
Drain the fat from the meat once browned
Add the sliced onion and let that brown
Add the water, beef bouillon, carrots, and potatos , and keep to a boil
Add the cabbage and Vegeta
Cook for one hour on medium and stir gently, periodically (be sure not to mash the cabbage when stirring)
