Ultimate Guide: How to Keep Your House Clean and Sanitized

Keeping your home clean and sanitized on a regular basis is no small feat, but it’s quite an important one. One thing I’ve found to be helpful is to maintain a schedule over the span of a week, month, and quarter. Breaking up cleaning tasks into this format has helped me maintain a good grip on keeping our home clean and cozy.

Here is a Free Cleaning Checklist you can download to keep on your fridge or in a binder, to pull out periodically so you can ensure you don’t miss any important spots while cleaning!

A few things I’ve learned are that some of the main ingredients that truly KILL germs are alcohol, bleach, or high temperatures. I’m all for natural cleaning products and try to use them periodically, but in general, I feel that bleach or alcohol are the ones that actually get rid of the bacterial germs the best.

I typically mix it up. I try to use natural products when I can, but when I really want to disinfect and sanitize, I bring out the big puppies.

Washing linens in hot water

Washing linens in hot water is the best way to sanitize them. I try to wash whatever I can in the washing machine. Thankfully, we’re able to remove our couch cushion covers, so occasionally we wash those. We also wash our rugs, sheets, blankets, pillow covers, etc. Any type of linens. I also recommend washing any cleaning rags you use to disinfect surfaces, in hot water so you make sure to really kill all those germs.

If you can’t use hot water, I recommend using a laundry disinfectant like this one, which kills 99.9% of the germs.

Things we forget to sanitize:

I prefer to sanitize with Clorox wipes or some other alcohol-based disinfectant. Some common household items we touch often, but sometimes forget to sanitize are:

  • Electronics (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.)
  • Remote Control
  • Door handles
  • Cabinet Pulls
  • Light switches

I hope this post serves as a nice tool for you, so you can ensure your home is clean and sanitized without missing any areas! And in case you missed it, here is the Free Cleaning Checklist you can download to keep on your fridge or in a binder, to pull out periodically so you can ensure you don’t miss any important spots while cleaning!
