7 DIY Gift Ideas That Are Easy to Make and Very Expensive-Looking

next post:

Looking for DIY gift ideas that are easy to make but actually look expensive? Here are some amazing DIY gift ideas that anyone in your life is sure to love!

Do you ever want to give someone a gift but have no clue what the heck to get them? Whether they’re tough to buy for, of they’re someone who has everything, gift giving can sometimes be stressful and pressured.

We all know that homemade gifts are the BEST. The feeling of recieving a gift someone went out of their way to make you from scratch, feels truly so nice. As long as it’s not a piece of junk, of course. Yes, I said that.

I put together this list of some really simple, easy to make DIY gift ideas. Most of which are totally affordable but actually look nice and expensive. I hope you give one or a few of them a try. I promise the gift recipient will literally love it!

This post is all about DIY gift ideas.

Best DIY Gift Ideas:

1. Cake Stand

Materials you’ll need:

This cake stand is the perfect DIY gift idea for a host or even a housewarming gift. It is perfect for pretty much any occasion. You can make it for literally under $10, and the fact that it’s homemade makes it so much better. It’ll also be totally original and uniquely made by you!

I’ve seen these things all over the place in stores, ranging from $40-$100+ which is insane! You can make one super cute for so cheap and give it as a gift. (Although you may end up wanting to keep it!) Cake stands are so cute for decor on a kitchen island or counter, displaying, well, cake… and even for muffins or cupcakes, pretty much anything.

We all know when it comes to food, presentation is IMPORTANT. I learned that when something looks good, there’s a psychological process that actually makes it taste better. How crazy is that. So next time you are serving something special, take this into consideration and throw it on a dang cake stand if possible!

2. Rustic Serving Tray

Materials you’ll need:

  • (2) 14″ pieces of wood
  • (4) 23″ pieces of wood
  • 2 metal pulls
  • Stencil or Cricut Maker
  • Wood Glue
  • Nail Gun

I’m obsessed with Shanty2Chic! They make the coolest DIY projects and home decor pieces! This rustic serving tray is insanely easy. It can totally be stained or painted to your color of choice. It’s super cute for any friend or family member who is hospitable and likes to serve and decorate!

This is also a cute idea for a guest bedroom, just saying! If you put the tray on the corner of the bed with towels, refreshments and toiletries, it’s such a warm and welcoming touch for guests! I promise they will love it!

3. Hanging Wood Sign

Materials you’ll need:

  • Print of choice
  • (2) 1×2 wood pieces of thin trim boards
  • Packing tape
  • Staple Gun
  • Twine for handing

This hanging wood sign is super cute. When I first saw it, I imagined a newly wedded couple’s vows written on it. Or perhaps lyrics from a favorite song or a cute poem. This is a super simple to make and very cute statement idea. You can find prints on places like Sugar Boo & Co. as well as Etsy. Or, you can just use Canva and print it out yourself. Then, you can jazz up the print with this DIY idea!

4. Photo Coasters

Materials you’ll need:

  • 4×4 white ceramic tiles (can get from Home Depot for $0.16 a piece)
  • Photos or scrapbook paper
  • Metal file
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • Mod Podge
  • Cork sheet (thin sheets of cork from Michaels)
  • Water-based poly

I thought these photo coasters would be the cutest DIY gift idea for someone you love! They could be SO cute with photos from a special trip or moment. Almost like a mini scrapbook but in coasters. Or they could be just random photos. Pets would be cute too! These are a really thoughtful and sweet DIY gift idea that is honestly so easy to make.

5. Geometric Cuff Links

Materials you’ll need:

So these are a bit unique but I think they’re so cute. These remind me of a guy who is super stylish and adventurous with his fashion. The fact that they’re homemade really spices them up in my opinion. Most cuff links all really look the same, but these are different and modern and uh.. handmade, which makes them super cool!

6. Imprinted Jewlery Dish

Materials you’ll need:

I love this imperfect, yet beautiful dish idea! This is so cute for Mother’s day or for a special day for an important woman in your life. These dishes are great for holding rings and other jewelry. They are so dainty and sweet, and just so dang cute! It seems like they’re super easy to make and quite affordable too! Heck, why not make multiple for a few different ladies in your life while you’re at it!?

7. Custom Cutting Board

Materials you’ll need:

  • Wood Cutting Board
  • Practice Piece
  • Wood Burning Tool with 4 Bit Attachments
  • Alphabet Bit Attachments
  • Pencil and Eraser

If this isn’t freakin cool, then I don’t know what is! You can literally customize any wooden cutting board and write whatever you want on it! So stinkin cool! I think it’s cute to add leaves as shown, or write a sweet message, or monogram it, or even write in a family favorite recipe that has meaning and tradition behind it. Wooden cutting boards are so cute for everyday use, serving things like cheese and crackers, or even just propped up on the counter for display. This is a super cute DIY gift idea for a family member, new home owner, or even a grandmother!
