We live in a consumption focused world that promotes and idolizes consuming more and more. It is crucial for our mental health and the positive evolvement of our society to learn how to create more than you consume.
When you create more than you consume, you make space for inspiration, passion, art and beauty to flow out of you. You open the door for your unique gifts and talents to flourish and be released into the world.
Creating more than you consume will reduce your anxiety, make you more present and peaceful, and help you feel a greater sense of calm and balance in your life.
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.”
– Robert Louis Stevenson
Creation helps us find and express our truest, most authentic selves. Consumption is society telling us who to be, how to think and how to act. It is crucial that we create more than we consume. Consumption is inevitable, and there are many times where it’s very beneficial for us. However, we must focus on tipping the scale and creating much more than we are consuming.
Over consuming can cause us to lose ourselves, to feel disconnected, unfulfilled and unhappy. It can lead to depression, anxiety and overwhelm. We must connect with ourselves and create space to let our true selves out into the world in order to keep our mental wellness in a balanced and healthy state.

The 5 Step Method
Try using this 5 Step Method to keep your life balanced. These 5 creative things should be done every single day before noon, and before you begin consuming. You always want to ensure you are creating before noon and not consuming until after noon. The 5 things are:
- Exercise
- Write
- Get Ready
- Clean up
- Plan your day
Always ensure you are doing the bare minimum of creativity before noon. After noon, you can begin consuming, but before noon, you don’t want to do anything on the “consumption” list (except for eat/drink).
Remember that at the end of the day, the goal is to create more than you consume. It’s to have the scale tipped. It doesn’t mean you can never watch TV or be on social media. But in order to maintain your overall sense of wellness and balance, you want to keep the consumption low. Set boundaries with your time and commit to yourself and your growth journey.
Ensure that each day you are doing way more things on the “create” list and less things on the “consume” list. In addition, you want to make sure the items you do consume are of high quality and truly contribute to you becoming the best version of yourself.
